What to do when
a passing occurs

here to help 24 hours a day.

What Should You do in the Event
of a Loved One Passing Away

When someone we care about passes away, whether the death was expected or unexpected, we may find we are unprepared for the process that follows.

We are available 24 hours a day to answer all calls and to advise you on what steps to take. We will need to get various information from you, such as, the name and age of the deceased, the place of death, you name and relationship of the deceased and phone contact details.

Here are our guidelines to follow when a loves one passes away.

When a Loved One Passes Away
at Home or in a Nursing Home

The first contact should be with the deceased doctor or registered nurse, who if satisfied with the cause of death, will issue the death certificate. You may be asked to collect the certificate from the surgery. In the case of a nursing home death, the nursing staff should liaise with the doctor. Please contact us after you have informed the doctor.

Once you have the death certificate, it is then necessary to make contact with the registrar and make an appointment to receive the registrar’s certificate – a green form, which we will require.

If you are unsure of what to do then call us.

You may also receive additional copies of the death certificate as you may need them for the bank, insurance, pension purposes etc. at an additional cost from the registrar.

Passing Away in Hospital

The first contact should be the ward where the deceased passed away, they will arrange the death certificate. Please contact us when you have spoken to the ward.
